All 40, in order

32 of the 40 are set wholly or partly in France. Every film keeps its row: one set wholly abroad reads “outside France”, and “+ abroad” follows the French place of one largely set elsewhere.

How we placed them

The list is our French films list's first 40 films, in its order. No film is left out for lack of a setting.

Each setting was read from the plot of the film's French and English Wikipedia articles, then checked against Wikidata's narrative location and the Wikipedias' “set in” categories. The plot decides; where neither plot names a place, a place is shown only when Wikidata and a category agree.

On the map a town is a pin, and an area where no town is named is shaded. A setting is where the story takes place, never where it was filmed.

The map and this list are a snapshot of the lookups from August 2021 to July 2026.
