Explore 1,440 books by where their stories take place. Select a region to browse it.
Darker means more titles set there.
A book set in more than one place is on the row of each, so the Titles column above totals 1,628 against the 1,440 that say where they are set.
The second figure is the share among the 200 most looked-up, so a region can hold a different share of each: Hauts-de-France rises from 1.2% to 3%, and Grand Est falls from 1% to 0%. Counted on where a book is set, and a book has no filming location to fall back on. 675 books are set outside France, on the last row rather than on the map, and 286 more name France itself, Guadeloupe, Guyane, La Réunion, Martinique, Mayotte, Nouvelle-Calédonie and Polynésie française — overseas regions and collectivities rather than metropolitan ones, and not drawn. Nine regions hold no series and say so rather than printing a dash, shares pass a hundred because a book set in two regions counts in both, and the top-200 share is greyed on the one under ten books, where one title moves it too far.
