Explore 951 books and other written works by where their stories take place. Figures for individual titles are lookups on Italian Wikipedia, not readers, not copies sold, not library loans.
Darker means more titles set there.
A book set in more than one region is on the row of each, so the Titles column above totals 1,021 against the 951 that say where they are set.
The second figure is the share among the 200 most looked-up, so a region can hold a different share of each: Abruzzo rises from 1.3% to 3%, and Emilia-Romagna falls from 8.4% to 5.5%. Placed on where a book's story is set — never on where it was written or published. Four regions have no poem or play set in them at all, and one holds nothing at all — that one still has a page, because the honest answer to "what is set there" is not a missing page. Shares add to more than a hundred because a book set in two regions counts in both, and the five regions under ten titles are greyed: one book moving in or out of the top 200 swings the figure too far for it to mean anything.
